The Pastor’s Porch, August 28, 2020

                                                                        The Pastor's Porch                                                                              August 28, 2020

This pandemic has certainly brought some hard losses, hasn't it?  Not only have folks lost love ones to it, but many have lost confidence in governmental leadership, not knowing whom to believe at times.  While in many cases people have been extraordinarily kind, there are those situations of defiance, anger, entitlement and violence that sadden my heart.  While I am ever so grateful for the technology that brings people together, I grieve not being able to return to the West Coast to see family and friends.  And then, of course, there is the overriding fear of becoming ill, as well as the depressing reality that none of this will resolve anytime soon, and when it does, it will be a new normal.  I told my son that he was living in a year that will definitely be significant in the history books.  So are we.  You know, wouldn't it be something if the last third of 2020, we wrote some new paragraphs for that story?  What if we Christians pushed back against the negative images of us that have become so prevalent?  What if we took a hold of the power of the living Christ and determined to demonstrate Who He is and Whose we are?  What if we committed to an hour of prayer per day for our family, our community, our nation and our world?  What if we spent part of that time just asking God what He would have us do?  Yes, an hour may be a lot, but isn't God's kingdom worth it?  Next week I am on vacation and won't be posting in the blog.  I will write again on Labor Day.  But during that time will you join me in prayer?  I will commit to praying from 7 am to 8 am each morning.  If you can join me that would be great.  If you need to pray during a different time, that's fabulous too.  Feel free to come back to the blog and post your thoughts and experiences while I am gone.  I will look forward to reading them!

Lord, Jesus, I am so grateful that You walk with me during this time of pandemic and national division.  I commit to spend an hour a day with you in the coming week, deep in prayer.  Will You meet me and help me to know how to serve You best?  In Your name I pray, Amen.

2 Chronicles 7:13-15

13 “When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 15 Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
